Kyoto Costume Institute
The Kyoto Costume Institute has one of the most extensive costume archives in the world. Keep in mind, though that they don’t have a permanent location for exhibitions – no museum! They do have some amazing resources, though.
On their website you can read some articles that have been published in their bi-annual Dresstudy Magazine. Here you’ll find scholars such as Dorinne Kondo and Akiko Fukai, among others, writing about fashion through the lens of both East and West.
You can also have a look at a 200-piece sample of their Digital Archive, which archives all 12,000 of the pieces in their collection (which you must pay to see).
