Evolution and Succession – Bunka x MEXT fashion show
The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT, the ministry that also gives out scholarships to foreign students who want to study in Japan…) teamed up with Bunka Gakuen and 6 other fashion school from across Japan to create a fashion show recently. The show was held at Bunka Gakuen on January 31, 2014, during the IFFTI Conference. This program was created in order to “create a new generation of thinkers, who would be active on a global level”. But you could tell, I’m sure.
The students worked with local textile makers and dyeing masters to create these looks. The producers basically gave them a bunch of cool fabric and said “MAKE WHAT YOU LIKE”. There are some good ideas in the bunch….but some yet unrefined creations below, but I chose to show them ALL in this post anyways to let you be the judge, and to give these students a chance to live forever. On the internet. I think the motivation behind this collaboration is admirable, and the students were lucky to have had the opportunity to work directly with local manufacturers to create their designs from the textile level. The models in the show are also mostly Bunka Model Course students, but some are pros and I really don’t know who is who.
